Required Material:

 

Textbook: Accounting: Tools for Business Decision Making (5th Edition); Kimmel, Weygandt, Keiso, Wiley Publishing (WITH “WILEYPLUS”). WILEYPLUS IS RQUIRED

Calculator: Basic calculator

Supplies: Pen, pencil, 3 scantrons

Learning Objective:

Understand the importance of maintaining accurate financial records and why businesses must have effective systems of collecting and reporting financial information.

  • Learn the basic accounting cycle, appropriate accounting forms and procedures for a sole proprietorship, merchandising system, and a corporation
  • Learn good business procedures and internal controls
  • Compile, interpret and analyze data from various documents and financial statements and other sources; locate and correct errors; perform audits on completed work.
  • Define and use accounting and other business terms correctly
  • Demonstrate mastery of accounting principles and practices through satisfactorily completing assigned activities and tests.

 

Course Requirements:

 

  • Prompt and Regular Attendance: If a student voluntarily chooses to drop the course, it is his/her responsibility to initiate the drop. The PCC attendance policy is that a student may miss a maximum of four (4) classes or ten (10) class hours before an instructor can drop the student for poor attendance

 

  • In-Class Assignments & Participation (See schedule below): Students are expected to complete their Chapter Reading assignment prior to class and be prepared to discuss/participate in in-class assignments when class is in session. Students are encouraged to form teams to participate collaboratively if they choose to do so.

 

  • Homework Problem Assignments (See schedule below): Students may collaborate or work independently on homework problem assignments. These assignments must be submitted in by scheduled dates (see deadlines in the syllabus). Assignments are to be submitted in the Assignment folders in Canvas. Canvas will not accept assignments past their deadlines.

 

  • Quizzes (See schedule below): Students are expected to work independently on weekly quizzes in class. Please check the syllabus for quiz dates.

 

  • Mid-Terms and Final Exam (See schedule below): There are two mid-terms and a comprehensive final exam. Prior arrangement must be made with the instructor if you are unable to make any exam on their scheduled date.

 

Cell Phones and all Electronic Equipment are to be TURNED OFF during class.

During exams and the review of exam results, all backpacks, purses, cell phones and electronic equipment must be placed at the front of the classroom. Desks are to be cleared except for pencils, calculators and scantrons. Violation of this will be considered cheating.

It is the student’s utmost responsibility to demonstrate integrity. Any cheating will be met with strict consequences. Cheating on any exam will result in an F for their semester grade and be reported to the Assistant Dean of Student Services. Cheating includes, but is not limited to, copying off someone’s exam, talking during the exam, taking photos of the exam or exam answers, and writing down exam problems or answers. All exam booklets, scantrons and other exam material MUST BE RETURNED before leaving the exam room.

 

FINAL LETTER GRADE:

A         90 – 100%

B         80 – 89%

C         70 – 79%

D         60 – 69%

F          Below 60%
